This week on Cinemental, our guest is the often imitated but never equaled or surpassed, writer, artist and legend, Howard Chaykin. He brings to our attention to discuss two classics from the 30s starring the lost entirely too soon Carole Lombard, First up, "My Man Godfrey" and amazing touchstone with the great William Powell. Secondly, we discuss "Nothing Sacred", a movie with a great story, but with a male lead that lacks the same chemistry as Powell/Lombard, who at one time were married IRL.

For part two of our discussion with mystery/thriller author Joe Konrath, we dig into the most exciting new action genre of films out there today. This action film from director Timo Tjahjanto is the latest in a ongoing evolution of action movies that have seen the bar raised over and over and have reached near fever pitch. Listen in to hear our thoughts of this new world of east Asian action cinema.
Posters we discuss are posted below, as usual.
This week we are joined by longtime friend mystery/thriller author Joe Konrath and he brings one one the classic comedy teams of all-time joined up with a slew of classic Universal monsters in "Abbot and Costello meet Frankenstein". In this week's episode we break new ground by looking at a film from Marvel Cinematic Universe for the first time. In his second film choice, Archie Comics Co-President Mike Pellerito brings "Thor:Ragnarok" to the table for discussion. And what a way to start, with Mjolnir destroyed and Thor stuck on a planet where the only way off is to fight, can the heroes pull off a last minute rescue for the survivors of Asgard? Tune in to find out.
Posters we discuss are posted below, as always. Enjoy!
This week we welcome Archie Comics Co-President Mike Pellerito back to the show and he brings with him what can possibly be considered the greatest baseball movie ever made, Barry Levinson's adaptation of "The Natural". We discuss and also get to the bottom of Hassan's (first time viewing) mysterious paranormal take on the film.
Posters we discuss are shown below. Enjoy!
In part two of our discussion with writer/director Ben Rock (VideoPalace) he brings us a guilty pleasure that honestly, I'd long forgotten about. The epic adaptation of the book Stephen King doesn't remember writing, "Dreamcatcher". With an all star cast, director and writers, how could this have gone so wrong? Did it really even go wrong? You better listen in to find out what we decide about this forgotten gem.
No posters, just listenin' fun.
This week, we welcome writer/director Ben Rock (The Blair Witch Project) to the show and he has brought a real zinger of a film. An early entry from award-winning documentarian Errol Morris. "Fast, Cheap & Out of Control" intertwines the stories of four very unique men, all working in some fashion in the pursuit of harnessing nature. A fascinating and not overlong look at four men doing work you've probably never considered.
