Well, we've finally gone and done it. We've managed to talk some very fine folks into being guests on our show and it all kicks off this week with Emmy Award-winning cartoonist, Dean Haspiel! as the guest, he got to pick what our feature film was to be and his choice was....the Sergio Leone western classic "Once Upon a Time in the West". From 1968 and featuring a whole slew of hollywood stars, including Henry Fonda as the bad guy. We also dive into a guilty pleasure of Dean's. a late 70s slasher film, that even while rated PG, manages some very creepy themes and elements, even if not outright scares. and as usual , below you will find the posters for both films that we discuss in out "Down the Tubes" Segment. First, "Once Upon a Time in the West": And then "Tourist Trap":

Our latest episode is now LIVE! This week we take a hard look at Dexter Fletcher's bright and exciting telling of Elton John's life from his childhood up through super-stardom. Taron Egerton channels the rock/pop icon including all of his own singing. BY the way we do not mean THIS "Rocketman": We mean THIS one: We're pretty sure you knew that, but we wanted to just make sure. ;)
Below you'll find the poster images that we discuss during our weekly "Down the Tubes" segment. Enjoy! This week we dive into David Fincher's amazing catalog of films and we watch "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button". This was the only film in his library that both Hassan and Latham had not seen before the show, so it seemed a good choice. Based upon the classic F. Scott Fitzgerald short story about a man living his life backwards it stands as a bit of a singularity among this director's works. We didn't go into the opening credits of this film, but there was a cool treatment given to the studio logos at the opening. The Warner Brothers and Paramount logos are both underlaid with falling buttons creating an almost collage-style effect that is both fun and ties in nicely to existing story elements as well as the title. As always, below you will find the poster images that we discuss on the show. Enjoy!
Our next episode has been released! This week we watch Jeremy Saulnier's brilliant "Green Room". If you haven't seen it, you should really do yourself a favor and do so. This young director's film is a masterclass of efficiency in storytelling.
AND...Patrick Stewart is the bad guy! Yes, THAT Patrick Stewart. Professor X, Captain Picard, Leondegrance (from Excalibur, if you've been following along ;) This is currently streaming on Netflix along with the director's other 3 films which are all recommended viewing. Posters we discuss on 'Down The Tubes" are posted below as always. Thanks to everyone who listened to our premier episode. We really appreciate your support and we hope to have some more fun stuff coming very soon.
So, we've upped our second episode. This week we're tackling Michael Mann's classic crime/heist story, "Heat". We ran on a little long and for that I apologize. Hopefully still dig what we're doing and stick with us as we make minor course corrections and get a little better each week. Remember to click subscribe if you haven't already, wherever you listen to our show and we'll keep 'em coming. Below you'll also find the posters we discussed in this week's show to follow along. Enjoy! No, we're not giving up so soon...
But...well, we recorded our second episode on Wednesday evening and even though we didn't plan on it, we ended up chatting for nearly 3 1/2 hours! Now, you're probably saying to yourself, "I'm not listening to these twats talk about anything for 3 hours!" And you would be absolutely right in that thinking. Not to worry, through the magic of capricious editing, we have managed to cut it down to under two hours, similar to our first show. Additionally, through fortuitous timing and an ever-growing affection for these little chats, we have managed to figure out a way to actually get another show out of the one we already made with a little extra recording. So, (if you want to see it this way) YOU WIN! a whole extra show this week. We'll be posting the next show tomorrow morning (EST) |
